The Real-time Scheduler Project introduced the first fixed overhead real-time scheduler for Linux (design attributes of which were incorporated into the O(1) scheduler)

In 2000, MontaVista built extra functionality into the Open Source community O(1) scheduler by adding APIs to support CPU affinity in multi-processor systems.
